Ready, Set, Read!
Ready, Set, Read!’s high-quality early literacy programming ensures Los Angeles children are prepared to learn and thrive in kindergarten and beyond.
Through a unique and visionary partnership with LAUSD’s Early Childhood Education Division, we reach 10,000+ children ages 0-5 and their families—and distribute 30,000+ bilingual books to build children’s home libraries—annually.
We serve curious preschoolers and their families at all 91 LAUSD early education centers (EECs; preschools) across the greater Los Angeles area. Our multifaceted early literacy program supports children, families, and educators—and creates literacy-rich home and school environments.
- Children: We distribute high-quality, bilingual books that celebrate diversity, spark curiosity and capture children’s imaginations. Family income constraints result in a focus on basic needs, so the books we provide are typically the only ones families have to treasure and keep. We take great care to select vibrant joyful stories that support social emotional, math, and science learning.
- Families: Our bilingual workshops are offered at children’s early education centers. Our curriculum is based on research in pediatrics, early childhood development, and cognitive neuroscience. The workshops include: 1) Foundations of Literacy in January; 2) Math & Literacy in March; and 3) Science & Literacy in May.
- Educators: We prepare educators to deliver workshops by providing professional development on family engagement and early literacy. Our team supports educators throughout the year, sharing curriculum and resources; and fostering a literacy community of practice.
Literacy inequity is a profound civil rights and public health issue, and book access and family engagement are a proven lever for change.
If our work is successful, all Los Angeles children will grow up surrounded by books and the joy, comfort, and benefits of shared reading with beloved caregivers.
We hope you'll join us!
